Calendar Backup & Restore · Privacy
Your calendars stay on your iPhone.
Calendar Backup & Restore (Cal Backup on the home screen) is an iPhone app made by Jax&Noah, the operating brand of JAX & NOAH STUDIOS INC. of British Columbia, Canada. This policy covers the app. The App Store privacy label for it is Data Not Collected.
What we receive
- Nothing from the app. There is no account, no sign-in and no server of ours behind it.
- No analytics, advertising or tracking code is built into the app.
- We never see your calendars, your events or your snapshots.
What the app reads
With your permission, the app reads the calendars already on your iPhone through Apple’s calendar access. That includes iCloud, Google, Exchange and on-device calendars. Events can include titles, times, places, notes, alerts, repeat rules and the names of other guests. You can turn individual calendars off in the app’s Settings.
Snapshots
- A snapshot is a saved copy of those calendars. Snapshots are encrypted and kept in the app’s private storage on your iPhone.
- The encryption key is kept in this iPhone’s Keychain and set never to leave this device. Because of that, snapshots can’t be opened on another device, including a new iPhone set up from a backup.
- Snapshots older than the history you choose are deleted on the device. The free plan keeps up to 90 days. The one-time unlock can keep a year or everything.
- Deleting the app deletes its snapshots.
Changes the app makes
The app writes to a calendar only when you restore an event and confirm it. It does not edit or delete your events on its own.
Files you export
You can export a snapshot as an .ics calendar file. That file is not encrypted,
and it goes wherever you send it from the share sheet. Once it leaves the app, it follows the
privacy terms of the place you saved or sent it.
Reminders and background refresh
If you allow notifications, the app can remind you when no snapshot has been saved for a day and a half. Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone. iOS may also let the app save snapshots in the background. Both happen on the device.
Purchases
The one-time unlock is sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles payment and refunds. We don’t receive your payment details. The app asks Apple on the device whether the unlock is active.
Children
The app is not directed at children, and it collects no data from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever starts handling data differently, we will update this page and the date below before that version ships.
